- 6 oz Medjool dates (pitted and chopped)
- ¾ cup boiling water
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 4 tbsp butter (softened)
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup heavy cream (for sauce)
- 4 tbsp butter (for sauce)
- ¾ cup brown sugar (for sauce)
How to Make It

Pour boiling water over dates with baking soda. Soak 10 minutes, then mash.

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs. Fold in flour and date mixture.

Pour into a greased 8x8 pan. Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes.

Make toffee sauce: simmer cream, butter, and brown sugar together 5 minutes until thickened.

Poke holes in warm cake. Pour half the sauce over. Let soak 5 minutes.
